AquaBeads® are a ready-to-use hydration supplement and feed attractant designed to improve early poultry performance by encouraging feed and water discovery right at placement. To maximize effectiveness, it’s essential to apply the correct amount spread evenly across starter feed.
Determine the Right Dose
The amount of AquaBeads® you’ll need depends on bird type and the number of birds being placed. Use the table below to guide your dosing:
Poultry Species | Suggested Serving Size (g/bird/day) | Cost per Bird per Day |
---|---|---|
Broilers | 0.5 – 1.0 g | $0.005 – $0.010 |
Turkeys (poults) | 1.0 – 2.0 g | $0.010 – $0.021 |
Layers (pullets) | 1.0 – 3.0 g | $0.010 – $0.031 |
Each 34 lb pail contains 12,000 grams of usable beads, so a single pail covers:
- 24,000 broilers at 0.5 g/bird
- 12,000 turkeys at 1 g/bird
- 6,000 pullets at 2 g/bird
Adjust the number of pails needed based on your flock size and intended duration (1–3 days).
Application Instructions
AquaBeads® are shipped in brine to keep them moist. This article outlines instructions for draining the brine from the pail. Then you’re ready to apply:
- Wear a clean glove or use a slotted spoon to scoop the drained beads.
- Sprinkle the beads lightly over the starter feed trays or directly onto feed on papered floors.
- Distribute evenly so the beads are spread out, not piled. This ensures chicks or poults can access both feed and beads simultaneously without crowding.
Over time the moisture in the beads can evaporate, so AquaBeads® are most effective if applied no more than a few hours before birds are first placed.
![]() ✅ Correct Application: Beads are visibly spread out and easy for birds to find. |
![]() ❌ Incorrect Application: Beads are clumped in piles, leading to uneven access. |
Monitor and Reapply as Needed
Depending on the level of activity, stress, and environmental conditions, AquaBeads® can be reapplied daily for the first 1–3 days. Always ensure beads remain fresh and spread properly to maintain effectiveness.
Applying AquaBeads® correctly at placement is a simple yet powerful way to support early bird performance. With just a few minutes of preparation and the right application technique, you can help your flock start strong—reducing early mortality, boosting feed intake, and setting the stage for better growth outcomes.
